Mission Statement

The Blue Wave Coalition Miami-Dade is dedicated to increasing Democratic voter engagement and turnout by providing a proven approach, materials and resources to ensure the election of Democrats at every level to create a better future for all Americans.

Strategy

Our primary goal is to increase turnout by canvassing targeted voters to sign them up for VBM.  Data shows that targeting Cold DEMs turnout will go from 10% to 60%, New DEMs from 42% to 84%, and Warm DEMs from 52% to 77% with VBM (Impact of VBM on FL Dem Turnout in 2018 Table).
  • Warm = voted no more than 2 times in the last 3 election cycles
  • Cold = didn’t vote in either 2016 or 2018
  • New = newly registered
We have identified the 60 precincts in Miami-Dade County with the highest number of inconsistent DEM voters.  Our partners adopt one or more of these priority precincts and execute the strategy.

Goals

Our minimum goal is to increase total Democratic voter turnout in targeted precincts from 77% in 2020 to 82% in 2022. This increased turnout cold tip the balance in some key races in 2020: US House districts 26 and 27, US Senatorial race (Val Demings vs Marco Rubio), and the Gubernatorial race (Taddeo/Fried/Crist vs DeSantis).

Commitment:

Partner commitment = 1 or more precinct adoption and execution of agreed upon BWCMD Strategy. We recommend each partner adopt 2 to 5 precincts, particularly precincts which can impact local races. We will have three waves of VBM canvassing over the span of six months.

Performance Measurement

To assess Miami-Dade’s performance, we will compare the 2020 total turnout for the set of precincts we have adopted against the 2022 total voter turnout for the same precincts

Performance Measurement

To assess Miami-Dade’s performance, we will compare the 2020 total turnout for the set of precincts we have adopted against the 2022 total voter turnout for the same precincts.

Our primary focus is door to door canvassing/literature drops in our priority precincts.  We use the “Hot Blocks” concept of walking the most fertile blocks in each precinct in terms of unregistered and inconsistent voters.  We are always prepared to register voters, sign them up for vote-by-mail and talk with them about what is important to them as well as the successes and values of the Biden administration and Democrats in general.

We will prioritize newly registered Democrats and No Party Affiliations (NPAs) and voter who changed parties through targeted postcards that will welcome them/invite them to work with us.

Additionally we will 1) notify any Democratic registered voters who have been made “inactive”  that this has happened and invite them to “reactivate” themselves 2) contact each registered Democrat who is not signed up for vote-by-mail and offer them an easy way to do that.

Our biggest two projects come nearer Election Day:

1. Mailing slates to our voters so they can be informed regarding all races including down ballot races and judges.

2. Getting out the vote as soon as early voting starts but connecting with those voters who have not yet voted up until Election Day itself to motivate them to vote and help in any way we can.
